One of the many fun things to do is to visit the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. It is a naturally beautiful place with many species of animals to watch. There are Komodo dragons, kangaroos, elephants, grizzly bears, and many of the region’s indigenous animals such as the Big Horned Sheep.  They have many specials and discounts from military to AAA. You can also become a member in order to save money and get in free each time you visit.

Another great place to visit is the Manitou Cliff Dwellings site. This is a hands-on type of place so you do not have to worry about not touching anything. You are free to explore the homes of the Anasazi Indians that have been around for about 700 years now. There is even a snack bar open in the summer months so you do not get hungry.  The Cliff Dwellings are located in Manitou Springs which is at the base of Pikes Peak.  There is also a gift shop and a Pueblo-type building which you can explore as well. The Pueblo Indians are descendents of the Anasazis.  A nature trail nearby is available to explore as well.  They welcome school tour groups and are open every day, except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Plan to take the time to learn about these historic Indians and get a chance to explore and touch a part of Colorado Spring’s history.

The Cave of the Winds located in beautiful Manitou Springs is one of Colorado Spring’s premiere attractions. It was discovered in the late 1800’s by two brothers out exploring. Now, many people take tours each year of these glorious caverns. There are actually three tours that you can take.  The first one is the Discovery Tour which is an educational tour led by an experienced guide. This gives you the chance to find out more about the caves and what they hold.  The second tour is the Lantern Tour. This is not for the very young or anyone with health problems. It last about 1 ½ hours and is lighted with lanterns only. The very earliest explorers used this method of exploring the caves, and this tour is a recreation of those explorations. The final tour is the EcoVenture Tour. This tour is a way to have a green vacation tour, as it is given lighted only by flashlight. Again, any of these tours are not recommended if you have health problems or for the very young. But, for those in between, and in good health, this is an excellent family adventure. So round up the family and go spelunking- (that’s cave talk for exploring caves).

Overall, Colorado Springs is just the destination for you. WhatsCheaper.com knows you will have an excellent time. To book your trip, vacationers can click on the above links to get started today.
