Jackson, Mississippi, the “City with Soul,” is a great destination for those interested in cultural or musical heritage. The city is alive with the sounds of the blues and the smells of soul food. Musicians from Kid Rock to Johnny Cash have sung about the “City with Soul.” A visit to Mississippi’s capitol city promises to be an enjoyable one.

WhatsCheaper.com invites you to book your next trip to Mississippi’s largest city. Visitors to the city can fly into Jackson-Evers International Airport. Please book your flight to this exciting city using the following link (http://www.whatscheaper.com/flight.php). Jackson has a variety of activities to do and attractions to visit. WhatsCheaper.com assures you that those interested in history and culture will find many interesting sites in Jackson, such as the International Museum of Muslim Cultures. The IMMC gives information about Islamic history and culture. It has two permanent exhibits—The Legacy of Timbuktu and Islamic Moorish Spain: Its Legacy to Europe and the West. You can view ancient Timbuktu manuscripts or artifacts from the time of Muslim rule in Spain.

For those interested in American Indian history, WhatsCheaper.com recommends visiting the Natchez Trace Parkway—a roughly 440-mile stretch from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee. The Trace is a historic route once traveled by American Indian tribes, pioneer settlers, colonial troops, and traders. Stop by the part of the Trace near the Ross Barnett Reservoir. There, visitors can enjoy nearby restaurants and shopping or participate in fishing, boating, water-skiing, bird-watching, and camping.

One cannot leave Jackson without visiting attractions related to African American heritage, such as the Medgar Evers home museum and the Medgar Evers Library. We here at WhatsCheaper.com think a must-see section of the city is the historic Farish Street district. Farish Street is like Memphis’s Beale Street. Though it is under construction to become Jackson’s newest entertainment hot spot, visitors can still walk or drive around and see any of the over 690 historic buildings. The Farish Street district also includes some important sites on the Mississippi Blues Trail, such as Trumpet Records and the Alamo Theater.

Downtown is another area that WhatsCheaper.com recommends. It is home to the Mississippi State Capitol, which was modeled after the nation’s capitol in Washington, D.C., and the Governor’s Mansion. Both sites offer free weekday tours. Along with several museums and parks, downtown has many bars and restaurants that play live music. It is currently the center of Jackson’s nightlife. We encourage you to stop by one of the juke joints to taste Mississippi soul food and hear the Mississippi blues.

Overall, WhatsCheaper.com can guarantee you that your visit to Jackson will be entertaining. Jackson is easy to navigate; most sites are accessible by car or public transportation. Book your next vacation to this musical city using the link above and see what musicians have been raving about.
