The capital city of Hyogo Prefecture, Kobe is a beautiful city that exhibits the best that Japan has to offer.  Kobe has exquisite scenery as it is nestled between the mountains and the sea coast.  From shopping to hot springs, Kobe has something for everybody.  One of Japan's busiest ports, Kobe is sure to be an exciting, fun-filled trip!

For those who love the outdoors, Kobe offers a number of great options for activities.  Kobe is home to two beautiful mountains, Mount Maya and Mount Rokko.  Mount Maya is within the boundaries of Setonaikai National Park and views of the entire Osaka Bay can be taken in at the very top of its peak.  To reach the top of Mount Maya, you can take the Maya Cablecar Line that opened in 1925 or you can ride the Maya Ropeway aerial lift.

Mount Rokko is actually a group of mountains with a number of hiking trails and popular tourist sightseeing spots.  Mount Rokko is also houses the first golf course established in Japan.  Opened in 1903, Kobe Golf Club is a unique course that is carved out of the side of Mount Rokko.  It should be noted that this course is a tad difficult to navigate as golf carts are prohibited and players are limited to eight clubs each.

For a bit of peace and tranquility, WhatsCheaper.com suggests stopping by the Arima Onsen hot springs.  One of Japan's oldest hot springs, Arima Onsen is the perfect place to relax on your vacation.

WhatsCheaper.com recommends paying a visit to the symbol of Kobe: the Kobe Port Tower.  This red steel tower has an observation deck at close to 300 feet and is modeled after the Sydney Tower.  For a small entrance fee, visitors can take in spectacular views of the city.

Shopaholics will absolutely fall in love with Kobe's most famous shopping districts.  Harborland is modern mix of shops, hotels, and restaurants that is just a stone's throw away from the Kobe Port Tower.  Another must-see shopping district is Kobe's own Chinatown.  One of only three Chinatowns in Japan, this district is a bustling place that is filled to the brim with great things to see and buy.  With traditional Chinese architecture, you will love walking through Kobe's Chinatown and sampling food from moon cakes to dim sum.

WhatsCheaper.com urges you to book your trip to Kobe in February, August, or October so you can catch one of the city's great festivals.  In February and August, Kobe hosts its biannual International Fashion Week.  You will be able to see the newest trends that top designers are premiering at either one of these fashion weeks.   In October, Kobe puts on its annual Kobe Jazz Street Festival.  With the first festival taking place in 1981, you won't want to miss the awesome talent at this festival.
