London
United Kingdom
By Keri Griffiths

With so many fabulous locations to choose from how do you narrow down London, United Kingdom to a handful of attractions? Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace are just a few of the wonderful places to see on you trip but with so many stunning, interesting and historical sites it is impossible to see them all. But we at WhatsCheaper.com can help! Here are some of our favorite ‘must see’ London sights.

To start things off, flights and accommodations are the first obstacle. Vacationers can fly into Heathrow International Airport (LHR) or London Gatwick Airport (LGW). Just click here (http://www.whatscheaper.com/flight.php) to search WhatsCheaper.com for great fares on flight deals. We can also assist with your hotel experience. By clicking here (http://www.whatscheaper.com/hotel.php), you can start your search for low prices at high quality hotels all over London.

London is full of history, and we recommend taking advantage of this during your time in the city. From 1939-1945 the world was at war and few cities were hit harder then London. The men and women, led by Winston Churchill, of the war cabinet had to go underground. It was the only place safe enough for them to do what needed to be done. Today, the Winston Churchill War Rooms are open to the public. You can walk the same halls they did, see where the slept, ate, and put plans into actions. This wonderful museum is a lasting testament to those that served and fought against the Nazi’s. Guided by an audio tour, you will hear stories of bravery, heroism and heart break. You really will leave with a better understanding of the sacrifices and life of those that lived through one of histories most horrible wars.

To lighten the mood, WhatsCheaper.com recommends crossing the river and heading over to William Shakespeare Globe Theater. Okay, it’s not the original theatre. That one was burned to the ground hundreds of years ago but the theatre that stands today is an exact replica. The building has a thatched roof, glorious stage with delicately painted arch ways, and an open roof that shine a bright light on all who per-form. During the spring and summer the Bard’s plays are acted out on the stage and some knew plays are produced right here as well. There is a museum telling you about the Globes history as well as the tales of William Shakespeare. When you’re done with that, take the 40 minute tour led by knowledgeable and entertaining guides.

The Tower of London was built over 900 years ago and since then it’s been used as a royal palace, an armory, a prison and a zoo... yes I said “zoo.” Kings and Queens have walked these grounds, still do, and some of histories most dramatic moments have taken place behind these massive walls. Ann Boleyn was executed on the Tower Green and Queen Elizabeth 1 was to the Tower via traitors’ gate to be question about her loyalties. Today, The Tower of London is one of the most visited attractions in all of London. People come from all over the world to view the stunning Crown Jewels and take pictures of the Beef-eaters patrolling the grounds. Of course, a lot more come in hopes of running into one of the many ghosts that, allegedly, haunt the grounds. Many of the ghosts are in search of their heads so don’t be to surprised when one asks you if you’ve seen it.

St. Paul’s Cathedral, built by the famous Christopher Wren in the 1700’s, has become the symbolic heart of London. It has risen from the ashes and stood proud despite the Nazi’s best efforts to destroy the heart of England during the Second World War. However, just like the people of London, you can always count on St. Paul’s to stand strong. I think it goes without saying that the most iconic feature of St. Paul’s is the massive dome. It rises 365 feet about the City of London and it is one of the world’s largest domes. Inside the church, stand under the done and look up at the most awe inspiring sights created by man. Breathtaking mosaics painted by Sir James Thornhill depict the life of St. Paul in exquisite detail. There are no words to describe the beauty of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

No matter how many time you visit London you will always find something new to see and do. So don’t waste a minute, click on the links above to book you complete vacation to London, United Kingdom with WhatsCheaper.com.
