Traverse City has a few maritime attractions that are worth visiting. If you want to capture some photos of lighthouses, then be sure to explore the lighthouses along the Grand Traverse Bay.  The lighthouses are surely photo-worthy, but so are the ships located on the port. In the port you’ll find some replicas of 18th and 19th century ships that you can take a guided tour of.

If you thought you had to visit Florida or California for beaches, then don’t be too quick to judge Traverse City. The city actually has a few beaches that have been noted by AOL Travel News as one of the top 10 beach towns worth visiting in the summer. So if you plan accordingly, you can visit Traverse City and enjoy the beaches that line Lake Michigan and some of the local lakes.

Relaxing on the beach is a nice delight, but even if you visit Traverse City during the fall, you can still enjoy some of the outdoor activities. Take a hike or nice bike along the Vasa or TART—trails that the city has to offer. If you stop by Traverse City during the winter then you enjoy some skiing or snowboarding at one of the local resorts in the area.

If you’re in search of some nightlife and gambling, then check out one of the local casinos. Traverse City is home to two main casinos that not only offer gambling, but have lodging as well. WhatsCheaper.com recommends you take that into consideration when figuring out where you’d like to stay in your visit to Traverse City.

You can try to explore the city by yourself, but it wouldn’t hurt to take a tour. There are various tours that you can take throughout Traverse City, and it’s highly recommended for those in search of various cuisines.  Give “restaurant hopping” a try while you’re vacationing in Traverse City.  If you’re not a foodie, then perhaps you might be into fine wines. If that’s the case, then check out the local vineyards and take a tour, as well as a wine tasting.

Lastly, you’ll want to enjoy the evening checking out some of the local music, art, theatre, and nightlife. The Traverse Symphony Orchestra always has great concerts that will soothe the classical lovers, and the local theatre often has productions. But of course you can always choose to see a movie and take a stroll throughout the town afterwards.
