Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church is one of Berlin’s most iconic landmarks.  The church was originally built between 1891 and 1895, but was partially destroyed during a WWII bombing raid.  Rather than rebuilding the church, it was decided to leave the partially ruined structure standing as a testament to the futility of war, and build a new structure around it.  Egon Eiermann designed the new structures in striking contrast to the original.
