The site is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday and holds living history programs throughout the year. Montrose Gardens, located in the bordering town of Hillsborough, is a historic garden with unusual plants and 19th century architecture that was begun by the Graham family in the 1840s and has served as an inspiration for Southern gardens. William Alexander Graham served as a North Carolina governor and senator, and was Secretary of the Navy under President Millard Fillmore.
