Key West, FL
Florida
By Summer Brons

If you crave warm weather, water, and a laid-back atmosphere for your next vacation, look no further than Key West. Popular for being a party hotspot and having a giant barrel indicating the 90 mile proximity to Cuba, the island offers more than just a great bar scene.

WhatsCheaper.com would love to help you book your Key West vacation! With it's own airport, Key West International Airport (EYW), flying in is a snap. Miami International Airport (MIA) is just 160 miles away, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is slightly further at 190 miles from the island. Since the drive from these cities down through the Keys is such a beautiful trip, many folks trade airplanes for rental cars in Southern Florida, and continue their journey to Key West by automobile. To book your flight reservations, just click this link (https://www.whatscheaper.com/flight.php) to get started. WhatsCheaper.com can also assist with booking your hotel. Vacationers can click here (https://www.whatscheaper.com/hotel.php) to search our hotel finder for great values.

Regardless of transportation means, once you've arrived on the island, it's time to enjoy it. WhatsCheaper.com recommends starting your vacation with some good old-fashioned sightseeing. The island has many museums and places of interest; including Earnest Hemingway's house, the Key West Shipwreck Historeum, the Lighthouse Museum, and the Butterfly Conservatory where you can walk through thousands of live butterflies as they flutter throughout the exhibit. The museums are a great way to learn more about Key West's unique history, and are family-friendly, too.

Although it seems to always be 5:00 in Key West, once the sun goes down, the island truly becomes an adult playground. The famous Duval Street hosts many of the city's 200-plus bars and restaurants, and is the place to be for nightlife. Duval is center stage for a number of festivals and celebrations throughout the year, but never shows a dull moment even in the off-season. Whether you're looking for a great burger, fresh seafood, or a cold beer, Duval Street has it; and you're sure to make some new friends while you're at it. WhatsCheaper.com reminds you to enjoy your spirits responsibly!

If you're looking to take advantage of the beautiful waters surrounding Key West, there are plenty of ways to do it. Rent a jet ski for the afternoon, go snorkeling, try out parasailing, or experience some of the best fishing there is with one of the many charters available around the island. Key West is known for gamefish, with about 225 species of them in the vicinity, and deep sea fishing expeditions are one of the best ways to get acquainted. Flats fishing and light tackle sports fishing charters are also plentiful. As the end of the day draws near, consider a sunset sail. Most of these mini-cruises last about two hours, and some even include adult beverages with the cost of the ticket. They're a great way to take in the beauty of the island and spend a little time on the water.

The beaches of Key West may be smaller than you'd expect, but given that the island is only two miles wide and four miles long, it is surprisingly well-equipped with sandy spots to work on your tan. Higg's Beach is a popular spot, with a fishing pier and restroom access; and Fort Zachary Taylor is an 86 acre state park with a great beach and a pre-Civil War fort. Admission in charged to get into the fort, but it's a worthwhile cost for the added piece of the island you'll get to experience. A handful of other beaches around Key West are frequented by locals and tourists alike, and with only a few square miles to work with, you'll have time to visit them all.

If Key West is on your list of places to visit, what are you waiting for? WhatsCheaper.com is here to help you plan your vacation, so get ready for an unforgettable experience.
