Madrid is the pumping heart of Spain, adored by travelers and native Madrilenos alike.  The thriving capital of the country, Madrid has exciting clubs, delicious cafes with churros con chocolate, and great art around every corner.  Madrid's bright spirit balances perfectly with the classic architecture and historic charm of the barrios.  With its vibrant energy, Madrid is for passionate travelers who can run on a brief siesta in between museums and castles during the day and dancing until dawn after the sun goes down.

Madrid's Barajas International Airport (MAD) runs frequent flights from other major world destinations.  By using, travelers can find budget flights to Madrid quickly and easily: (  Going to and from the airport is easy with Madrid's exemplary public transit and subway system.  Arrival by train is very simple; trains from northern and southern destinations arrive at the Atocha or Chamartin stations. has a great hotel finder, so when travelers arrive in Madrid they can go straight to a hotel in a great downtown location: (

Some of the best artistic works in all of Europe can be found in Madrid.  Madrid is the home of the Golden Museum Triangle, which includes the Reina Sofia National Museum and Art Center, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Art and the Museo del Prado.  The Reina Sofia houses Madrid's largest modern art collection, while the Thyssen has a varied collection mixing contemporary art with classical pieces.  The jewel in the crown is the Prado, which contains masterfully executed and historically significant works by Bosch, Velazquez, Caravaggio, and El Greco.  Outside the museums, it is apparent that Madrid lives its art: the architecture of the Palacio de Telecomunicaciones (a fully functional post office) and the elegance of the Palacio Real and gardens are not to be missed.

Despite the shockingly modern transit system, Madrid is an equally fun city to wander by foot.  Strolling through the many plazas, like the Plaza Mayor, is a great way to feel the pulse of the Madrid (and get in some wonderful people-watching).  The Plaza Mayor is a good place to begin a walking tour of downtown Madrid, looping through Sol, Gran Via, and the fountains and drum circles of El Retiro.  A bit further away from downtown are the gay-friendly environs of Chueca, the youthful student neighborhood of Moncloa, and the avant-garde artistry of Tribunal.

Madrid by day is gorgeous and stimulating, but the city truly comes alive after the sun goes down.  An evening in Madrid begins just before midnight, with drinks and dancing at any one of the bars and clubs downtown.  Dress to impress at Kapital, a mega-club known throughout Europe for its seven stories of dancing and music.  In Sol, the Palacio Gaviria's 16th century theme blends with modern house music, or try any side street or corner pub throughout Sol for frenetic dancing and good times that last until dawn.

Though it is not as frequented as other European capitals, Madrid has the power to captivate any traveler.  With its attention to beauty and an unmistakable zest for living, vacationers who live passionately and travel in search of grand experiences will find nothing but wonder in Madrid.  By searching for hot deals, flights and hotels within your budget, will get you to that party in Madrid without breaking the bank.
