As with many larger cities, Munich is comprised of a variety of districts. The center of the city is organized into Marienplatz, Isartor, Karlsplatz, and Odeonsplatz. Munich's center is a popular tourist hotspot, thanks to excellent shopping and amazing architecture. You can even still see portions of the old wall and the old city gates from when the center was walled off.

The districts of Schwabing and Maxvorstadt are known as the University area. Needless to say, you'll find bookstores and cafes aplenty in this area, as well as beautiful tree-lined streets. knows that this district is also full of specialty restaurants, and a great place to venture to sample some international flavors.

You'll certainly want to visit the Olympia Einkaufzentrum, or the Olympic area, where the 1972 Olympic games were held. encourages you to climb some of the surrounding hills that were created by World War II debris, or ride to the top of Olympic Tower for some fantastic views of Munich. knows that when the sun goes down, the district of Haidhausen is where the nightlife crowd goes. Kultfabrik and Optimolwerke are the particularly active areas, with more than 30 clubs, bars, and restaurants between the two. reminds you to enjoy the Munich nightlife responsibly! The district is also excellent for perusing quiet side streets with houses still standing that have remained unchanged for hundreds of years.

Looking for a quiet place to spend an afternoon in Munich? Wander to the Neuhausen and Nymphenburg district. Neauhausen is home to the world's largest beer garden, and both areas are packed with great restaurants. Even better, this district is relatively free of heavy tourism, which shares with you because we know that even the most active vacationer occasionally seeks a bit of downtime.

Finally, visit the Thalkirchen district, which lies along the banks of the Isar River and serves as a popular recreation area. During warmer months, bonfires can often be seen lit along the Flaucher, or the sandbanks of the river. also recommends a visit to the Hellbrunn Zoo while you're in the area.

Since we couldn't offer an article on Munich without giving some must-see suggestions, urges you to be sure and hit a few particular spots. As mentioned, the cultural scene is strong in Munich, as is the history, so museums are plentiful here. Automotive enthusiasts should be sure to visit the BMW Museum, and the City Museum of Munich, the Deutsches Museum, and the National Bavarian Museum are some other great spots; just to name a few. We also certainly must add that if you're traveling to Munich during October, be prepared for Oktoberfest. Certainly a blast if you opt to participate in the activities, but if not a fan of large crowds and copious amounts of intoxication, you may wish to visit Munich at a slightly different time.

Munich is one of those unique cities that offers a little something for everyone, making it the ideal venue for a truly unforgettable vacation. Book your travels through and come see Germany through Munich's eyes!
