Ponce is the largest city in the Porta Caribe region of Puerto Rico.  The city is located about seventy-five miles from San Juan.  Known as “The Pearl of the South”, Ponce has a rich history and beautiful sites just waiting to be explored.

WhatsCheaper.com invites you to book your next vacation in Ponce, Puerto Rico.  You will begin your journey by flying into Mercedita International Airport (PSE).  You can book your flight today with WhatsCheaper.com by clicking on the following link: (https://www.whatscheaper.com/flight.php).  Ponce offers unique accommodations for visitors from hotels, resorts, paradores, small inns and even green hotels!  Visit WhatsCheaper.com to book your stay by clicking on the following link: (https://www.whatscheaper.com/hotel.php).

WhatsCheaper.com encourages you to visit the Museo de Arte de Ponce.  The museum houses a collection of more than 4,500 works of art from various cultures.  At the museum, you will find pieces including sculptures, paintings, photographs, ceramics and much more.  Some of the pieces even date back to ninth century B.C.!

We also encourage you to visit the El Museo Castillo Serralles, a Spanish Revival house.  Guides will take you through the house where you will see courtyards, dining room, a cafe and souvenir shop.  The El Museo Castillo Serralles is a stunning architectural building with the perfect place to sit and take in the beauty of Ponce.  Make sure to stop by the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  The Cathedral was built in 1931 and is named after the famous holy shrine in Mexico.

WhatsCheaper.com suggests you stop by Hacienda Buena Vista, a 19th-century coffee mill and plantation.  Hacienda Buena Vista was a working plantation until the 1950’s.  It was purchased in 1984, renovated and opened three years later.  Take a tour and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee!

Your next stop should be El Vigia Hill.  The hill is covered with a maze built between the 19th and 20th centuries.  When you get to the top of the hill, you will see Cruz del Vigia.  Known as the “Virgin’s Cross”, this structure is an observation tower in the shape of a cross.  When you get to the top of the tower, you will get a bird’s eye view of Ponce city.

While Ponce does not have any beaches, some of the best beaches in the region are only about thirty minutes away.  The beach at Guanica boasts pristine and crystal-clear water.  You can go swimming, snorkeling, and diving.  Have you ever wondered where Gilligan’s Island was located? Directly offshore from Guanica!

Downtown Ponce is filled with lots of things to do.  WhatsCheaper.com encourages you to check out the restaurants and try some of the local cuisine.  You will find plenty of shopping perfect for purchasing souvenirs, local artist’s work, brightly painted carnival masks, pottery, clothing, jewelry and more.

Ponce is Puerto Rico’s main shipping port in the Caribbean.  Stop by La Guancha, which is a boardwalk around Ponce’s harbor.  The boardwalk offers a lot of fun and entertainment for everyone.  You can take a ferry from La Guancha to Caja de Muertos, otherwise known as Coffin Island.  Coffin Island is a cay covered with mangrove swamps and surrounded by magnificent beaches.  While you are on the island you can go hiking or snorkeling or both!
