Much of the island of Saint John is comprised of parkland protected by the U.S. National Park Service. recommends seeing the pristine, jade pathways which are suitable for hiking or just plain viewing.  Keep your eyes open for mongoose, endless bird species, iguanas and others in a habitat that also provides over 800 plant species. 

For your hike, also recommends exploring the Annaberg Sugar Plantation Ruins.  The plantation was once the spot for rum and molasses making, and you can be sure to enjoy a plethora of exhibits and fairs along the area.  Take the Annaberg Historic Trail and partake in an in-depth view of the plantation grounds.  You may also want to check out the Peace Hill Ruins for a scenic overlook or travel into the popular area of the Reef Bay Trail & Petroglyphs.  At Reef Bay, you will be able to see petroglyphs left behind by native Indians while also learning of enchanting island wildlife and folklore.  There are also plenty of other hiking trails to choose from such as Salt Pond Bay, which will take you to an actual salt pond. 

To become even more enamored with ancient history, recommends that you head over to Cinnamon Bay and take part in an archaeological dig.  Enjoy the stimulation of a real-life excavation experience while working along with scientists and other volunteers. 

Once you’ve had enough interacting with history, learn even more at the Elaine Ione Sprauve Library & Museum, located in a restored plantation home and housing plenty of artifacts, including old pictures. recommends winding down the rest of the day at the Pastory Gardens to enjoy a leisurely walk around a vibrant spread of botanical gardens or even indulge the family in a relaxing game of minitaure golf.

For your next day of fun, splash up the water and sands of the beach.  Head over to Cinnamon Bay again, but this time, relax with the island beauty or engage in kayaking, windsurfing and snorkeling. thinks you may also want to head to Hawksnest Beach, one of the most attractive beaches for a picnic or a barbeque.  Enjoy time with family and firend whiles also checking out the nearby reef for more snorkeling.  If you would like more shallow waters, head over to Honeymoon Beach, which is accessible via either hiking or boat.  There is also Trunk Bay, which holds one of the most breathtaking beaches, and is one of the more popular ones in the island.  There are plenty of other bay options, so be sure to do a search before choosing just one place.

While in the Carribbean, enjoy the temperate weather but be sure to fill up on fluids.  For dinnertime, indulge in just about any type of restaurant choice from Mexican, Chinese to barbeque or the tasty local Caribbean seafood.  When the sun goes down and dark sets across the horizon, enjoy the nightlife of a local bar by finding one which hosts live music or just choose to drink rum on the sands. also recommends taking a ferry to another island to see what the others have to offer.
