Whistler, British Columbia, located 78 miles north of Vancouver (about a two hour drive), is without a doubt one of the most beautiful resort towns in North America. At any time of the year, you will find serious winter-sport athletes and vacationing families enjoying the seemingly limitless expanses of snowy mountains and hills. Whistler has it all: snow sports, a huge mountain bike park, eclectic shopping, and fantastic restaurants.

To get to Whistler, you will most likely fly through Vancouver International Airport in Richmond, British Columbia. From there you can drive, train or bus to Whistler. When you’ve decided when to hit the slopes and enjoy your evenings relaxing in front of a fire, book your flight with WhatsCheaper.com here (http://www.whatscheaper.com/flight.php). Most tourists visiting Whistler stay in one of the resorts. However, there are plenty of other options as well: check out the hotels and the condos and townhomes you can rent for longer stays, then book your stay with us here (http://www.whatscheaper.com/hotel.php).

The skiing and snowboarding opportunities  in Whistler are famous. There are many trails of varying difficulty, perfect for the learned and the learning alike.

Most visit Whistler to enjoy alpine skiing and snowboarding, but you can enjoy all sorts of winter sports and other snowy activities during your stay. Go ziplining or snowmobiling; if you prefer cross-country skiing, take a long tour. It will both tire you out and invigorate you, like all winter sports and games.

Whistler is a world-renowned winter sport destination, not only due to the constant stream of domestic and international tourists but to its status as an Olympic site. In 2010, the Winter Olympics were held in Whistler. A statue of Ilanaaq, the mascot of the games that year, resides on Whistler Mountain.

In the summer, Whistler’s mountain bike park is one of the most active sights in the city. Another popular summer activity in Whistler is golf. Whether you are a seasoned player or an amateur, there are courses you will love. Other summer activities include lakeside sunbathing, canoeing, swimming and chairlift rides up to the top of Whistler Mountain or Blackcomb Mountain to take in the magnificent vistas.

If you enjoy the wilderness and you like to hike, take one of the backcountry tours or explore the hiking trails on your own. There is abundant wildlife in the mountains and the rest of the surrounding countryside: if you are very lucky (and very careful!) you may see a bear or a mountain lion. Other rare but less dangerous animals to look out for include eagles and foxes. There are lovely waterfalls to be seen, and if you have the time you could take a helicopter to the top of a glacier.

Whistler Village is the place to be at all times of the day. Grab a coffee and a croissant before hitting the trails in the morning, or browse the shops in the sunny afternoon. This notably pedestrian-friendly village has won design awards for its layout. Make sure to enjoy the nightlife in the village or at your resort during your stay. Grab a warm whiskey or hot chocolate at one of the trendy bars, then head to one of the lounges to listen to music and sit back for a while. End your evening with a stop at one of the nightclubs in the area. Enjoy live music, great DJs, and great company, whether you’re with friends or meeting fellow travelers!

You will most likely travel to Whistler because of its rampant reputation as a world-class winter sport wonderland, but WhatsCheaper.com bets you will want to return to experience the cultural atmosphere. Visit one of the art galleries in the village, or, if you can, visit during the winter arts festival. Check out Whistler’s museum or the cultural center to take some of the history of the area. WhatsCheaper.com wishes you a wonderful time on the mountains and a good-food- and good-fun-filled trip!
